The "Family with Classics" Parent-Child Reading Forum, under the fifth National Conference on Reading, was held in Nanchang, capital of East China's Jiangxi Province, on April 20. The event was organized by the Department of Family and Children's Affairs of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the Civilization Cultivation Bureau of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Office of the National Working Committee on Women and Children under the State Council, and Jiangxi Women's Federation.
The forum, attended by nearly 500 people, was intended to cultivate stronger family bonds and traditions, through the reading of classics.
During the forum, some book-loving families read excerpts from classic texts. The excerpts showcased family values such as diligence, thriftiness and unwavering loyalty to the nation. Descendants of Red Army soldiers passionately recounted stories of the Long March, to inherit the revolutionary legacy of their ancestors. Some volunteers shared their innovative approaches to providing volunteer services, for children in rural areas, through reading activities. Experts and scholars explained the significance and methods of using reading to support children's physical and mental growth, while also highlighting the importance of reading classics in cultivating fine family traditions, and in fostering a sense of patriotism and family devotion among family members.
Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, noted ACWF has organized the "Fragrance of Books Across Families" parent-child reading campaign for 10 consecutive years. Under the initiative, more than one million demonstration events have been organized, which combined have engaged more than 400 million people in the pleasure of reading. This year, the new brand, "Family with Classics," was launched to promote family values, through the reading of classics.
The "Family with Classics" campaign, centered on family reading, will feature year-round activities. It will include the AI (artificial intelligence)-powered product, "Lianlian Accompanies You in Reading Classics," and 100 demonstration events, under the theme, "Recitation at My Home."
