The grand final of the National Women's Square Dance (Fitness Dance) Competition opened in the sports center of Linping, a district of Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang Province, on October 23.
The final event was co-hosted by the General Administration of Sport and the All-China Women's Federation.
Since its inauguration in Zunyi, a city in Southwest China's Guizhou Province, the competition has held its selection events in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, drawing the participation of 1,150 delegations with over 20,000 members.
During the selections held both online and offline, contestants gave shows of personal and group charisma via their strong enthusiasm toward square dance. At last, 51 delegations with nearly 1,000 members from 42 cities in 25 provincial regions advanced to the final event in Linping.
The artistic performance at the opening ceremony of the final competition centered around flowers, which convey poetic meanings behind Linping and self-confidence of modern women. The National Women's Square Dance (Fitness Dance) Competition has shown fruitful results made by China in the further development of mass sports and become one of typical cases for the country in pressing ahead with national fitness strategy and building a country strong on sports. Square dance, a popular public fitness activity among women, has developed into an important carrier to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen neighborhood bonds and showcase women's positive spirits.
