Hunan Women's Federation and Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs conducted a rural-matchmaking-demonstration activity recently in Shibadong, a village in Xiangxi, a region in Central China's Hunan Province.
More than 120 young, single people attended. The participants were from Xiangxi and two neighboring counties, one in Chongqing Municipality and the other in Guizhou Province, both in Southwest China.
Shi Kang and Shi Hui, a couple from Shibadong, shared their love stories during the activity. Xia Pengcheng and Wang Jianping, whose family was named a national civilized family in 2020, discussed how to maintain a happy marriage.
Participants watched a traditional Miao dance, and a stage play on the theme of promoting moderate marriage practices, and they got to experience several local customs, including making ciba (glutinous rice cakes) and making Miao-style embroideries.
The participants also visited an exhibition hall, where they learned how the residents of Shibadong eliminated poverty, and promoted rural revitalization. After they played some games, more than 30 pairs of the participants expressed their willingness to develop a relationship with each other.
In 2024, the All-China Women's Federation launched branded matchmaking services, integrated with sports, cultural tourism and science and technology. Women's federations, at all levels across China, have organized more than 30,000 matchmaking activities and/or group weddings, which have benefited more than three million people.
