Wen Shanlian, an NPC deputy from Fangtai Township, in Xingguo County, in East China's Jiangxi Province, is a cadre at Fangtai Township Residents Service Center. During this year's two sessions, she focused on the important topic of social etiquette and civility in rural areas.
During recent years, a series of down-to-earth and popular village-level cultural activities, such as village super league (or cunchao), village basketball association (cun BA) and village galas (or cunwan), have flourished across the country. In fact, such activities have become vibrant carriers of social etiquette and civility in rural areas in the new era.
Wen suggested there is a need to strengthen policy support and resource allocation for such activities, to encourage localities to leverage their unique folk characteristics to create distinct cultural brands, with high recognition and strong appeal. She said she believed such support will help residents both enhance their sense of local identity and boost their cultural confidence, through widespread participation.
Women play a crucial role in advancing rural civilization and transforming outdated customs, Wen stressed. In Xingguo County, she added, the communities have formed women's volunteer-service teams, which encourage and guide women to contribute to rural development, with a sense of responsibility. Also, themed activities, such as the "clean homes" campaign and "civilized family" selections, have been conducted regularly, and these activities have injected strong momentum into the fostering of social etiquette and civility in rural areas, good family traditions and simple, honest folk customs, Wen added.
She has dedicated herself to fulfilling the mission and responsibilities of a grassroots cadre, and contributing to advancing comprehensive rural revitalization. Wen has been honored with multiple awards, including the 2025 New Era Youth Pioneer Award and the 27th Jiangxi Youth May Fourth Medal.
