Mikyi Tsomo, a member of the 14th CPPCC National Committee and a professor at Xizang University of Tibetan Medicine, in Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, has witnessed significant changes in local healthcare and rapid development of Tibetan medicine throughout the years.
During a group interview, ahead of the second plenary meeting of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, on March 7, she said increased investments in primary public facilities and medical care, with medical-assistance programs in Xizang, has helped improve local healthcare services, and has protected the health of local farmers and herdsmen.
Mikyi Tsomo, who began her journey in Tibetan medicine when she was 13, has dedicated more than 30 years to the research and development of Tibetan medicine.
Mikyi Tsomo notes Lum medicinal bathing o f Sowa Rigpa — knowledge and practices concerning life, health and illness prevention and treatment among the Tibetan people in China — was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018.
The Four Treatises of Tibetan Medicine was included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2023. Given such achievements, Tibetan medicine continues to shine on the international stage, Mikyi Tsomo says.
