County Head and Woman Entrepreneur Promote Pears Through Live Broadcast

 2020-03-06

Nearly 70,000 kilograms of pears were sold on an e-commerce platform allowing users to participate in group buying deals, through the live streaming sales on March 2.

During the live broadcast promotion, Tao Guanghong, head of Dangshan County, Suzhou City, in East China's Anhui Province, introduced the history of the Dangshan pear, its unique natural growth environment and the many ways it can be eaten, attracting over 600,000 people on the platform to watch the broadcast and adding over 50,000 followers to the store.

The online promotion activity was initiated and coordinated by cnwomen.com.cn, a website under the All-China Women's Federation, the Dangshan County Government, a local fruit trading company led by woman entrepreneur Wu Yanyan, and pear farmers, in a bid to boost the poor sales of Dangshan pears because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The live broadcast expanded the exposure of Dangshan pears to 500 million consumers on the e-commerce platform Pinduoduo.

Dangshan County, known as the "Pear Capital of the World," grows pears which feature thin skin, juicy taste, a small kernel, and sufficient flesh. Sweet and crispy, the pears are believed to nourish the lungs, relieve cough, produce saliva, and dissolve sputum.

Tao said that this activity has opened up targeted online channels of selling agricultural products, and also brought about opportunities of using new e-commerce platforms to help fruit farmers shake off poverty. It expands pear sales through e-commerce, and helps optimize the planning of plantations of Dangshan pears.
