China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF), China Fashion Association and four universities organized a public-welfare-themed fashion show on May 16, during China Graduate Fashion Week.
Clothes created by young designers, with inspiration from several intangible cultural heritage (ICH) crafts, in various regions of the country, were displayed.
Eleven craftswomen, all beneficiaries of CWDF's Genius Mom project from Guizhou, Qinghai or Hubei provinces, displayed their ethnic costumes.
An exhibition of innovative ICH crafts and a market, where the craftswomen sold their works, were also organized. During the event, CWDF and Beijing Film Academy launched an initiative to promote ICH inheritance through innovative approaches in the arts.
The Genius Mom project will help students combine theories they learned during their studies with social practices in their ICH-related research.
