"After being diagnosed with breast cancer, I have received surgical operation and undergone several rounds of chemotherapy. I still cannot lift heavy things. Although the economic conditions of my family are not very good, all my family members have granted me with tremendous support. Women's federations have lent a helping hand to me," said a rural woman surnamed Jiang from Jinzhai County in East China's Anhui Province, during an interview.
Jiang conveyed thanks to the "Breast Health Care Program" for its assistance and demonstrated her tea-picking skills in the field.
Representatives of the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) and volunteers from US skin care group Estee Lauder held an inspection tour about the implementation of the public welfare project in several townships of Jinzhai from April 18 to 20. They sent a batch of financial aids and caring packages containing daily necessities to local breast cancer patients and held free medical screenings in local county-level and township-level medical facilities.
Volunteers assisted medical workers and distributed promotional materials among local residents, offering them convenient medical services. In addition, doctors from Jinzhai conducted health education and talked with attendees about breast health knowledge and the concept of "early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment."
"It is meaningful for us to visit Jinzhai, the former revolutionary bases. We have been deeply impressed by the unyielding spirit shown by local beneficiaries in the face of difficulties. Meanwhile, we have realized the utmost importance of medical screenings to them. We are glad to take part in relevant activities," said volunteers.
With the support of Estee Lauder, the public welfare initiative has been held in Beijing, Shanghai, Hubei, Sichuan, Anhui and Heilongjiang to provide local women with breast examinations and relevant medical consultations and distribute caring packages and financial aids among women in difficulty. Online publicity activities have also been organized to further raise women's breast healthcare awareness.
