Music Nourishes Spring Bud Girls' Dream

 2025-08-29

A Spring Bud Camp on Enhancing Girls' Music Literacy concluded in Nanluo Theatre of Beijing on August 15.

The five-day camp event drew the attendance of 46 Spring Bud girls from Shangrao of East China's Jiangxi Province and Tangshan of North China's Hebei Province, who gave performance of a music drama titled "the Adventures of Spring Bud Girls on Dream Stage" at the closing ceremony. The musical drama showed their growth and positive changes brought by artistic education.

The girls watched a children's stage show titled "Growing Up Together with Cat Sanya" in Nanluo Theatre on August 11. It was the first time for many of them to enter a theatre and enjoy such a stage performance.

They looked around everything with curiosity in the theatre and didn't know that they would give their debut of music drama in the following days.

The activity was jointly organized by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF), Tencent Music Entertainment Group, Beijing Children's Art Theatre and Tencent Foundation. It aimed to enrich the girls' lives with arts.

During the following days, the girls devoted themselves to the training classes and rehearsals under the professional guidance of experts and teachers.

It was challenging for them to make rehearsals of eight separate episodes and complete the preparations for a music drama in a limited time since they didn't have relevant experience before.

The teachers divided the girls into four groups based on the drama's plot and the girls' strengths. Teachers and the girls engaged in warm exchanges and collaboration with fruitful results.

On August 15, the girls presented an artistic feast to the audience with confidence and determination. They were completely different from the shy girls they were a few days ago when the classes first began.

The audience said that it was amazing for the girls to present such a fabulous show after a five-day training.

A girl Qianqian (pseudonym) said that she fell into love with the performing arts and she hoped to have more opportunities to perform on stage. Other girls said that they made new friends and became more confident.

They were expected to bring back home what they had seen and experienced in the past days and introduce the Spring Bud Project to more people in the future.

The Spring Bud Project was launched by the CCTF under the leadership of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) in 1989 to improve education of girls from disadvantage families. With social development and the improvement of people's livelihoods, the project has provided girls with both material aids and diverse education assistance.

The Spring Bud Girls' Sci-Tech and Music Literacy project, launched by the CCTF and Tencent Corporation, aims to assist girls in exploring science, technology and arts, plant the seeds of science and technology among them, nurture their artistic interest and help them grow up healthily. So far, it has been implemented in 50 schools of nine provincial regions, benefiting nearly 10,000 students.
