Public Welfare Project Enriches Summer Vacation of Children in Gansu

 2025-10-20

This summer vacation, the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) jointly implemented a public welfare project titled Dream Building for a Better Future in Kangxian, Zhuoni and Kangle counties of Northwest China's Gansu Province.

The women's federations in three counties, through Caring Mothers initiative and other programs,  have organized various activities including colorful summer classes and study tours themed fine traditional Chinese culture and red culture. They have accompanied the children with love and care, brought hope and strength to the children, and helped them enjoy a happy and safe vacation.

Accompanied by caring mothers and university students volunteers, children in Jiajiaba and Zhangjiahe villages of Kangxian learned about water safety and how to prevent drowning and attended hands-on experience classes about waste upcycling and floral design. They also visited historical museums, fire stations and other places to expand horizon and acquire more knowledge.

The mental health class featured fun interaction activities, which were designed to guide children to spread kindness, deepen mutual trust and understanding, and master the art of getting along. At the DIY classroom, students turned plastic bags and used papers into crafts. They also learned and performed the songs like Filling the World with Love and My Country in music class, drawing strength from music.

The holiday classes also brought children to the nature, allowing them to better understand their hometown. They toured Mount Qinglong, visited education bases to experience paper-making and lacquer fan-making, and listened to revolutionary stories in the Memorial Hall of Longnan Revolutionary Base.

Zhuoni Women's Federation invited children and caring mothers to visit the Lazikou Pass in Diebu County, which was famous for Lazikou Battle in 1935 during the Long March (1934-1936).

During the visit to the Lazikou Battle Memorial Hall, children admired firm ideals and beliefs of revolutionary martyrs through cultural relics and historical photos. Caring mothers led children to walk along mountain paths that revolutionary martyrs had traversed. Children gained a deep understanding of the hard-won revolutionary victory, planting the seed of "red spirit" in hearts.

Caring mothers also presented to children with revolutionary, literary and science popularization books and encouraged them to draw wisdom and strength from reading.

In Kangle, children from three primary schools visited Kangle Museum, Lanzhou Museum, and nearby galleries, where they attended various social education and study tour activities, engaged in dialogue with ancient and modern civilizations, and learned more about history.

Experts from Kangle Museum talked with the students about splendid prehistoric culture, vocalization and etiquette during social education activities. They also helped the students learn more about cultural connotations of cultural relics.

A group of 46 caring mothers accompanied about 100 children to visit local museum, revolutionary memorial hall, art gallery and other places, where the children deepened understanding of local history and culture.

Forty children from three primary schools in Kangle attended a study tour in Lanzhou. They learned the writing of ancient Chinese characters in Gansu Jiandu Museum, gained a deep understanding of agricultural and nomadic civilizations in Gansu Provincial Museum, and engaged in the making of rubbing print and gourd carving in the intangible cultural heritage workshops.

Since launched by the CCTF and the CSCEC in 2024, the project has focused on education assistance, companionship, school infrastructural construction and upgrading, and rural teachers training, and carried out four parallel dream-building actions to promote the all-round development of children. So far, it has benefited nearly 650 children and their families.

Looking ahead, the CCTF will further deepen its partnership with the CSCEC, underscore the actual needs of left-behind and disadvantaged children as well their families, enrich the contents of relevant initiatives, and organize various activities to ensure the healthy growth and all-round development of children.
