A handover ceremony of a mobile health clinic under the Health Express for Mothers Project was held in Qusum, a county in Shannan City of Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on September 17.
It was the 11th mobile health service vehicle donated by the People's Insurance Company Group of China (PICC), China's leading insurer, to Xizang and the 160th mobile health vehicle contributed by the PICC to regions nationwide via China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) during the past 12 years.
After the ceremony, medical workers from Shannan Municipal People's Hospital provided over 100 women and senior residents with free medical screening and diagnosis services in a centralized care center of disadvantaged people.
Staff workers from the CWDF, the PICC and Xizang Women's Federation also visited several families in difficulties in Qusum, talked with them over their life and urgent demands, and sent to them cash, medical and daily supplies.
Since its partnership with the CWDF in 2013, the PICC has donated more than 33.39 million yuan (US $4.7 million) in cash, delivered 160 vehicles to nine provincial regions, and offered nearly 2.8 million women as well as children health services. So far, medical screening and consultation services have been provided over 100,000 times and more than 2,000 pregnant and lying-in women as well as patients in critical and urgent conditions have been transferred to hospitals by the donated vehicles to Xizang. The project has improved the access of women and children in Xizang's remote farming and pastoral areas to medical and health examination services.
