The Sub-Forum on Women in Science of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Science Forum 2025 was held in Nansha District of Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong Province, on December 7. The event was jointly organized by Guangdong Women's Federation and the Working Committee on Women of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society.
The sub-forum on women in science brought together distinguished women scientists nationwide, who held in-depth dialogues and exchanges over medicine and life sciences and shared with other participants about their latest research results in relevant fields.
Their dialogues and insights were intended to further rally the strengths of women technological workers toward the building of the GBA and the promotion of national development.
In their speeches, women scientists talked about the progress of their research in pathology, pharmacy, smart diagnosis and treatment and other cutting-edge disciplines.
Guo Jiao, Director of Guangdong Metabolic Diseases Research Center of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine under Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, gave a keynote address titled "Integrating Chinese Wisdom with Modern Sciences: New Concepts and Practices in the Prevention and Control of Glucolipid Metabolic Diseases."
Noting that the light of life lies not only in illuminating personal path but also dispelling darkness in the life of others, Guo asked women technological workers in both sciences and medicine to foster a benevolent mind before acquiring relevant prowess and to dedicate themselves to guarding public health.
In addition, several scientists talked about their career development, research achievements, and personal understanding of medicine and life sciences, offering insightful health-related suggestions to the public.
During the past years, Guangdong has given full play to the roles of women technological workers, taken solid steps in enhancing sci-tech innovation strength, supported the establishment of the provincial women's association for science and technology and the organization of the GBA Women's Sci-Tech Innovation Competition, provided women scientists with favorable terms in the application of major research programs and funds, and pressed ahead with the construction of women-oriented technological working stations and the collaborative platform for women's sci-tech innovation in the GBA.
Thanks to these efforts, many women technological workers and research teams have successively made a name of themselves and become an irreplaceable force in helping propelling the GBA technological cluster to claim the first place worldwide.
