"We have 62 patients being treated in the department. Among them, five are over 80 years old and five can't take care of themselves. A couple of patients encourage and care for each other and they are recovering quickly," said Li Huizhen, Director of the 14th Division of Infection in Guanggu Branch of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province. She was writing down the statistics and things to do in her notebook.
The notes, with marks to indicate the priorities and progress of each item, are said by her colleagues to be Li's "combat chart" on the battlefield of fighting against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Li is a surgeon in her 50s with 30 years of clinical work experience at a military hospital. She was sent to Wuhan to offer medical help to curb COVID-19 in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak. She regards the ward as her battlefield and has always been in high spirits and energetic at work.
Getting busy from morning till night, Li has demonstrated her clear work style and her ability to solve problems resolutely.
Engaged in infectious diseases diagnosis and treatment in the military, Li has participated in health service drills and public health emergency handling many times. Her medical and scientific research achievements have earned her many military medical awards and awards for scientific and technological progress.
After learning that the hospital would send a medical team to support Hubei Province, Li was the first to submit an application and organized intensive personnel training in a short time. "I'm a veteran Party member and I should be able to endure hardships and take on more responsibilities."
Although she has a lot of work as the director of the department, Li handles it all very well with her calmness and qualifications, which come from her years of experience, and what's more, from her close attention to the patient's condition, the characteristics and advantages of the medical workers in the department, and the current situation of the department.
"I want to take the chance to mentor more young people through the fight against COVID-19," said Li, adding that this is not only her wish — it's another "combat chart."
