To help women find employment and increase their incomes, Pingquan (a city in North China's Hebei Province) Women's Federation has organized free, regular crocheting-skills training, especially through Quanyi Beautiful Workshops, in recent years.
The federation has organized more than 60 training sessions in 19 townships in Pingquan. More than 5,000 women have attended the sessions, and nearly 800 of those women have found jobs, near their homes, using the skills they have learned.
Under the guidance of Pingquan Women's Federation, Liu Dongmei, head of Quanyi Beautiful Workshops, has led her team in researching crocheting crafts, and in developing creative cultural products, since 2022.
More than 100 rural women work in the workshops, which are situated in 13 townships. After receiving orders, the workshops provide the raw materials and pattern designs to the workers. The workshops also sell the finished products for the workers.
Pingquan Women's Federation has also helped the workshops use digital technologies to develop new products. The federation has posted stories of the workshops' workers, and the crocheting courses, on social media, and that publicity has helped expand the influence of Pingquan's crocheting industry
